SUMMER VIDEO & PHOTO CAMPS FOR YOUTH -- 2008

This alternating series of 1-week courses in animal videography and photography will run throughout the summer, beginning the week of July 7th. Both programs will teach entry level skills used to capture great images of the fascinating creatures of Cinemazoo and the endangered species at the Mountain View Conservation Society in Fort Langley, BC. Recommended for ages 8-12, with classes also available for teens.
WHERE/WHEN
A new class will begin each Monday, from July 7th thru Sept 12th. The classes will alternate each week throughout the summer with the first video class starting July 7th, and the first photography class starting July 14th. Classes will meet daily from 8:00-3:00, Monday-Friday at Mountain View Conservation Centre, 23898 Rawlison Crescent, Langley.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
- For the photo course you will need a digital camera and memory card. For the video course, professional grade video equipment will be supplied. You will need to bring a lunch. And, of course, you need the will to make great photos.
- Each student will receive individual attention to ensure they get the most out of their experience.
- At the end of the week there will be a slide show for the photographers) or a video of the children’s work that is open to viewing by family or friends.
- Each student will receive a copy of the show on a CD and a book of course notes to keep!
- Refreshments (gratefully provided by Happy Planet Juice) and snack will be provided.
- This is an incredible opportunity to learn solid photography skills while having fun under the supervision of professional photographers. The chance to photograph some rare, endangered, exotic animals and is sure to leave a long lasting impression.

Course Outline
Monday
Course orientation and tour of Mountain View Farms, with an outline of the importance and goals of conservation. Methods of both safe animal care as well as camera operations will be taught. First photos of an exotic animal.
Tuesday
Conservation. Learn about why these endangered creatures are in their dubious position and what some good people are doing about it.
Photography concepts, composition tips, and the rule of thirds. Photographing giraffes, ostriches and Zebras.
Wednesday
Set design and lighting setup. Learn how to make a simple studio set and how to position lights and animals to produce beautiful close up shots of another exotic animal. Video class will gain experience in downloading and sorting clips and establishing a video timeline.
Thursday
Photography students will focus on pet photography tips and practice. Review and compilation of images for slide show. Learn the steps involved in putting together a great looking slideshow/ PowerPoint presentation. Video students will learn interviewing techniques and the process for importing audio and creating soundtracks for their video.
Friday
Q&A session and individual tutoring on matters of photography/videography and animal care.
Photography students will present their slide shows starting at 2:00 PM. Video students will present their videos starting at 3:30 PM. Families, friends welcome to attend.

ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE -- 2008 SCHEDULE

This 10 week course introduces students to practical animal photography techniques. Feed back from our students in 2007 was fabulous. Everyone learned so much and felt it was worth every penny.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
- Learn through lectures, demonstrations and workshops
- Several field trips to Mountain View Conservation Centre and Cinemazoo
- Student and instructor critiques to assist students to improve their techniques
- Learn basic safe behaviour around animals and basic animal wrangling
- Studio techniques for animal photography including set design and artificial lighting
- Field techniques, lenses, filters and magnification
- Guest speakers
SCHEDULE
Spring: Saturdays for 10 weeks
Time: 9am to noon
Dates: May 3 to July 5, 2008
Summer: Saturdays for 10 weeks
Time: 9am to noon
Dates: July 12 to September 13, 2008
