STEPS IN THE VOLUNTEER PROCESS
1. Select where you want to volunteer
2. Submit an application
3. Attend an interview
4. Complete a health check
5. Agree to a police record check
6. Attend orientation
Once your application is received and if an appropriate volunteer role is available, you will be contacted for an interview. You will be asked to provide the names and addresses of two professional references (i.e. not family or friends). Recent letters of reference (less than one year old) may be acceptable.
HEALTH CHECK
Approved candidates for our volunteer program are expected to complete a health record form with the help of their family physician. This form will be provided during the interview. Please note: Mountain View does not reimburse any fees your physician may charge for this service.
AGREE TO A POLICE CHECK
Some volunteer positions at Mountain View require a police record check. This process will be explained during the interview.
ATTEND ORIENTATION
Once we receive your completed health record form, you will be scheduled to attend a mandatory orientation that consists of a summary of Mountain View, infection control, emergency procedures, confidentiality, etc.
PLACEMENT AND TRAINING
Your placement and position-specific training will be arranged once you have successfully completed the above steps.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be accepted into the program. The process to become a volunteer has several steps (all of which are important) and may take some time. This intake process was developed in order to best serve the animals and staff and to ensure that volunteers are appropriately placed at Mountain View. Please download and read the application form Volunteer Application Form (PDF). It gives you further details on the opportunities and requirements to be a volunteer of Mountain View.
If, after reading the form, you have questions, please call 604.882.9313 or email volunteers@mtnviewconservation.org.
